Harvesting The Back Forty

Autumn 2016

The changing leaves have brought falling temperatures and dryer air with them. They have also brought cold weather crops to our “Back Forty” heirloom garden at The Farmhouse at The Grand Colonial.  Included in those crops are several varieties of non-GMO lettuces, cilantro and parsley, and radish varieties including white globe, china rose and purple plum.  After these cool weather crops wind down, The Farmhouse will begin preparing the soil for its winter rest. This process includes the planting of winter wheat, which adds crucial nutrients to the soil naturally.
